RIVERSIDE, Calif. —  Best Best & Krieger LLP congratulates three attorneys on becoming partners: Rebecca Andrews, Sigrid Asmundson and Thomas O’Connell. In addition, the firm’s partnership voted in Jeffrey Ballinger to the Executive Committee and Danielle Sakai will serve as BB&K’s chief talent officer. All changes became effective Jan. 1
“Through their hard work and dedication, these talented attorneys have earned these new positions. They are each important contributors to BB&K and the clients we serve, and we are proud of their high-quality work and excited to welcome them to their new positions,” said BB&K Managing Partner Eric Garner.
Rebecca Andrews focuses on federal, California and Texas-specific water and administrative law matters, as well as telecommunications. She works extensively with water districts, cities, counties and private clients on all aspects of water quality matters, including permitting, regulatory compliance, administrative and civil enforcement, and litigation. Rebecca is based in the firm’s San Diego office and spends significant time in Texas. She earned her law degree from the University of San Diego School of Law.
Sigrid Asmundson is a public law attorney providing general and special counsel services to local agencies with a focus on elections law, economic development, affordable housing, land use and state mandates. She serves as general counsel for the Cosumnes Community Services District and Nevada County Consolidated Fire District. Sigrid works in BB&K’s Sacramento office. She earned her law degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law.

Thomas O’Connell handles all aspects and stages of litigation for both private and public clients. Last year, he served as lead counsel on behalf of five of the largest franchisor and franchisee organizations in a matter brought to the United States Supreme Court regarding “joint employer” liability. His franchise practice focuses on the registration, renewal and organizational fundamentals of franchisors. Thomas is based in the Riverside office. He earned his law degree from Georgetown Law.

In addition, BB&K’s partners elected Partner Jeffrey Ballinger to the firm’s Executive Committee. Jeff served as the Municipal Law practice group leader for six years — a position now held by Partner Scott Campbell. The five-member Committee is charged with making key business decisions for the firm. Members serve 2-year terms. Jeff is replacing Partner Shawn Hagerty, who served three terms.

BB&K is also pleased to announce that Danielle Sakai will serve as chief talent officer. An attorney in the firm’s Environmental Law & Natural Resources practice group for 18 years and the Recruiting Committee chair, Danni will oversee attorney recruiting and hiring, professional development and human resources.
